Functional Safety for Products, Systems and Companies
The automation of technical equipment for safety-related tasks involves risks. The reliability and safety-related functions (Functional Safety) of components and systems has to be ensured according to the relevant national and international standards or guidelines (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and further).
If this equipment fails to function - for example, through technical defects, faulty sequence of events or false human reaction, the environment and technology may well be endangered.
Automation - Software - Information Technology (ASI)
We have more than 25 years experience in finding solutions to problems relating to assuring the safety, quality and reliability of
- Software
- Electronic measuring and control system and monitoring equipment
- Programmable electronic systems
- Process automation.
Our test, certification, inspection and consulting services are used by business and government contractors worldwide. ASI has about 30 of its own qualified and experienced engineers from different technical fields and has quick access to other departments of the TÜV Rheinland Group. We have at our disposal modern, well-equipped laboratories and testing facilities to provide effective and rational solutions to a wide range of safety, reliability and quality issues.
ASI’s main accreditation is:
- Quality and safety especially functional safety including safety management of software and systems (with or without software) and their components (electronic components, measuring and control devices, programmable electronic systems).
- TÜV Rheinland is a European Notified Body, authorized to certify to EU Directives (Machinery, Elevators, Low-Voltage, Pressure equipment, ATEX and EMC) and a Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by OSHA to certify to UL and other US standards, and by SCC to certify to CSA and other Canadian standards.
