Since 1994 the business sector Automation, Software and Information Technology of TÜV Rheinland Group invites to an international specialist symposium in Cologne, Germany every two years. Considerable developments concerning safety related applications especially programmable techniques as well as the finalization of various relevant international standards concerning functional safety demand a continuous and sustainable exchange of know how and experience.

In order to support and intensify the international exchange of information and to make the state-of-the-art transparent, TÜV Rheinland Group is planning the

Programmable Electronic Systems in Safety Related Applications

This symposium is supposed to enhance the series of successful events in Germany and is a result of the successful first Symposium in the US held in 2005.

Objective is to give a survey of worldwide developments and show practical experience of manufacturers of safety related products and end-users of the US market.

The target group focusses on interested persons and experts, whose job is concentrated on planning, producing, operating, testing and approving of safety related systems and plants.

The main topics of the symposium will be

• Practicability of IEC 61508
• Sector specific standards (e.g. IEC 61511, IEC 62061, EN ISO 13849))
• Software tools for application software development and tests
• Safety bus systems
• Safety related PLCs
• Examples of applications in process and production industry.

We plan to have sequential presentations where producers/suppliers/integration companies/end users present their products and/or applications with respect to the topics above. Additionally we will have invited speakers.

On the second day after lunch workshops covering special topics will take place. So interested persons will have the possiblity to discuss details with experts.

The Symposium also offers companies the possiblity to exhibit tools and present their range of products or services. The location offers ideal conditions for a convincing presentation.
