(electronic components, measuring and control devices, programmable electronic
systems).
TÜV Rheinland Group is a European Notified Body, authorized to certify to EU Directives (Machinery, Elevators, Low-Voltage, Pressure equipment, ATEX and EMC) and a Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) accredited by OSHA to certify to UL and other US standards, and by SCC to certify to CSA and other Canadian standards.
Systems, Devices & Components
The automation of technical equipment for safety-related tasks by Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) involves risks. If this equipment fails to function - for example, through technical defects, faulty sequence of events or false human reaction, the environment and technology may well be endangered.
Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) used for safety purposes normally consist of input devices (e.g. sensors), programmable electronics and output devices (e.g. actuators).
Sufficient measures must be applied in order to keep the risk of a process within tolerable limits. These tolerable limits depend on the application, in accor-dance with national and international standards for the components of a PES with functional safety. Measures to avoid faults and detect and control failures must be implemented within the PES in order to accomplish functional safety.

ASI carries out a type-approval on your behalf to ensure that your product
includes sufficient functional safety according to the intended Safety
Integrity Levels (SIL). TÜV Rheinland Group takes the requirements
of national and international standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511, IEC 62061, EN
954, ISO 13849 etc.) into consideration and ensures your product's suitability
for the intended application area.
