Certification and Marking
Automation, Software and Information Technology (ASI) carries out type approvals of electrical/electronic products. A positively completed test results in the certification of the product and the optional issue of a test mark. There are two test marks:
1. Type approved
The type approval provides the proof, that the tested product meets the requirements of the relevant product standards and can be used in the specified range of operation.
The type approval is a basis for the producer's CE declaration of conformity, as all regulations are applied as base of testing, which are necessary for the proof of conformity according to the relevant european directives (at least low voltage- and emc-directives).

2. Functional Safety FS - type approved
The test mark "Functional Safety FS" is applied to products, which - according to the product standards - require functional safety (failsafe behavior) and which are used in safety related applications. The safety design of the products according to the relevant standards, including the EN 954 and/or the IEC 61508, has to be proved.
Together with the product's implemented measures to ensure the failsafe bahavior, the complete documentation concerning the overall life-cycle of the product as well as the implemented Functional Safety Management, which is being applied to all life-cycles of the product acc. to the standard's requirements, has to be surveilled and assessed.
A certificate and test mark "Functional Safety FS" includes concerning it's meaning the mark "Type approved".

The following diagram outlines the certification options, which can be achieved after the positively completed type approval of products:
